What should happen before the scale is attached?

Begin with the scale unloaded, isolated from a lifting task and in a stable position where its external condition can be viewed without placing anyone at risk. Identify the exact unit and obtain the applicable manufacturer instructions and site procedure. Do not rely on memory, a generic checklist or the appearance of another model.

Confirm that the intended task remains the one covered by the authorised process. A pre-use check cannot authorise a new lifting operation, select lifting accessories or decide how an unfamiliar load should be connected. If the planned load, method, people or environment differ from the approved task, refer the change through the site's normal assessment route.

Pre-use pass or stop checklist

Stop whenever visible damage, unusual behaviour, an unreadable display, an incomplete latch, an uncertain rating, missing information or a changed task creates doubt. Keep the scale out of use in accordance with the site's process and report the issue to the person assigned to decide what happens next. Do not dismantle, adjust or return it to service on the basis of this article.
