A 3 tonne crane scale is worth considering when a load already has a suitable rated lifting route and the task is an internal suspended weight check. It is not a shortcut around checking the complete lifting arrangement, physical fit or measurement requirements. This guide gives you a practical decision table and the questions to settle before choosing the P6 or another type of scale.

Is a 3 tonne crane scale the right type for the job?
Start with the weighing method, not the product specification. A crane scale sits in the load path, so the item must be capable of being suspended in a controlled manner through an existing lifting process. If the load can be placed securely on a platform and there is enough floor space, a platform scale may offer a simpler workflow.
Suspended weighing may make sense for awkward items that are already moved by an appropriate crane or hoist. That does not make a crane scale inherently safer, more accurate or suitable for every awkward load. The crane, hoist, lifting point, scale, shackles and other connecting items each need their own suitable rating, and the complete arrangement must be assessed for the intended task.
The 3,000 kg figure is the P6 scale's rated capacity. It controls the total suspended load passing through the scale, including the item, lifting accessories and any container or attachment below it. Using Tare can remove a container weight from the displayed net reading, but it does not increase that 3,000 kg boundary.
Which five checks should come before product comparison?

Do not turn the 3,000 kg rating into a working target. The correct operational limits and lifting plan depend on the complete arrangement, the load and site controls. A purchasing article cannot replace manufacturer instructions, training, risk assessment, inspection, thorough examination or decisions by a competent person.
What does the confirmed P6 specification tell you?
The P6 is the 3T English-panel version with a 3,000 kg rated capacity and a stated accuracy of 0.5 kg. Its backlit LCD uses black digits, and the weight is read from the display on the scale body. Hold, Tare, Zero and kg/lb selection are provided. Stated accuracy is not the same as calibration status, display division or legal approval.
The orange housing is aluminium alloy. The lower hook is described as high-temperature quenched and forged and includes an automatic anti-drop safety latch. A closed latch is an important visible connection detail, but it does not prove that a load is correctly seated, that every component is suitably rated or that the complete lifting method is acceptable.
The supplied remote controls the scale from up to 20 metres under suitable conditions. It is not a remote weight display or a data logger, and the quoted distance is not a defined exclusion zone. Before buying, check that the on-scale LCD remains readable from the normal control position and that the operator can work from the site's designated area.

The scale can operate while charging, although cable routing and a dry, suitable charging location still need workplace consideration. When is another scale a better fit?
Choose another solution when the total suspended load may exceed 3,000 kg or cannot be established confidently. A higher nameplate capacity is not the only answer: the entire rated lifting arrangement and the consequences of inserting a scale into the load path must also be reviewed.
A platform scale may suit loads that can be placed securely on the floor and do not already follow a controlled lifting process. A different crane scale may be necessary when headroom is limited, the connection dimensions do not fit, the reading cannot be seen from the operating position, a certified IP rating is mandatory or a remote display or data output is required.
The P6 should also not be selected on this information alone for legal-for-trade transactions, hazardous atmospheres, lifting people or any use needing a calibration certificate, proof-load document or a specific approval that has not been stated. These are procurement gates, not details to resolve after delivery.
What should you confirm before ordering?
Give the supplier and the person responsible for the lifting task a concise application summary. Include the maximum item weight, every attachment below the scale, the intended upper and lower connections, available headroom, normal viewing position, wet or dusty exposure, frequency of use and the decision that the weight reading will support.
Ask for confirmation where dimensions or documents matter.
